Paperfish Sushi

One of the Magic City’s best-kept sushi secrets, Paperfish, is, appropriately, hidden in an alley. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you spot the restaurant’s red torii gates between the towering buildings of Brickell and South Miami Avenue. Inside, ornamental cherry trees carve out one dining area from another, spiriting diners into a Tokyo-inspired izakaya. The menu presents one of Miami’s most authentic Nikkei experiences, a fusion of Peruvian flavors and Japanese technique — prepared here with a touch of Florida flair. The best way to enjoy it is with the chef’s omakase service, a parade of sashimi, nigiri, tiradito, and ceviche that highlights the best seasonal ingredients alongside the menu’s daily list of impeccably fresh fish. (A second location, on Española Way in South Beach, is said to be in the works.)
