  • Airboat in Everglades

    17696 SW 8th St. Westchester/West Miami

    888-893-4443

Living in a concrete jungle, there are some days when you just want to wild out, wilderness style. Lucky for us, the Everglades is at our doorstep, so there's always an opportunity to get your adventure on. Hitch a ride with Airboat in Everglades, and you'll get up close and personal with birds, gators, fish, mangroves and all kinds of other flora and fauna -- much of it unique to the famous "River of Grass." Semi private rides are more affordable, and you share the flat-bottomed boat with a few new friends. Then there are the private rides, and when the boat's all yours, you can instruct the captain on your riding style. Fast and furious, or slow and steady. It ain't cheap, but the best things never are. Besides, how can you put a price on Mother Nature's wonders?

Despite the masses of marinas across Miami, most of us aren't boat owners. Hell, how many of us even own our cars? But it's hard to take advantage of everything this city has to offer without a seaworthy craft. No matter. You can always opt into a watercraft for an hour, an afternoon or an entire day - while avoiding those hefty payments/docking fees/fuel issues. At American WaterSports in Coconut Grove, you can rent eight types of crafts by the hour or half or full day. From pontoon party boats to full-fledged yachts, you can rent whatever you need to take to the seas.

Being human kinda sucks sometimes, what with the whole lack of airborne ability. Unless you're Superman, Ironman or another superhero, you've probably dreamed of taking flight. Luckily, we've got those handy things called airplanes, and at Kendall's Miami Fly, you can learn how to head towards the heavens in your very own steel bird. Put yourself in the expert hands of owner Eusebio Valdes, and add amateur flier to your resume. For a mere 40-odd hours, you can earn your own pilot certification. So. Worth. It.

  • Miami Marine Stadium

    3601 Rickenbacker Cswy. Key Biscayne

    305-361-3316

Miami Marine Stadium is one of those rare, one-of-a-kind landmarks you'd only find in the 305. This stunning Modernist creation was originally built on Virginia Key as the first purpose-built venue for powerboat racing in the U.S. In the years following, the bayfront Ley Biscayne locale hosted rock stars, presidents, major sporting events and earned itself a place in the history books. Sadly, it fell into disrepair, but the good news is, a restoration plan has been approved and Friends of Miami Marine Stadium are spearheading fundraising and refurbishment efforts. A bright future is ahead for one of Miami's most remarkable assets, and we can't wait for the final product.

  • Trail Glades Gun Range

17650 SW Eighth St., West Dade Westchester/West Miami

    305-226-1823

Shooting inanimate targets is the best use of any firearm, in our humble opinion. And at the Trail Glades Gun Range, there are a whole host of options for sport shooters to fire away. They've got ranges in a whole host of lengths for pistols, rifles and the like - plus six trap-and-skeet fields. They also offer safe shooter classes (always a wise choice) and field rentals for law enforcement officials to stay on top of their game. There are few pastimes more stress-relieving than target practice.
